Players complete the course by throwing a disc from a teeing area towards a target, throwing the disc from where it lies, and completing the hole by throwing the disc into the basket. What are the rules of disc golf
Disc golf is a sport played with a flying disc or Frisbee®. The object of the game is to complete each hole in the fewest number of throws of the disc. A hole is completed when the disc comes to rest in the Disc Golf Basket.
Most courses are designed for players of all skill levels. The course will have different tee boxes for different skill levels. The beginner tees will be closer to the hole than the advanced tees.
The basic rules of disc golf are simple. The player who has the least amount of throws on the previous hole is the first to tee off on the next hole. The other players tee off in order from most throws to least throws. If two or more players are tied for the lead, then the player who threw last on the previous hole tees off first on the next hole.
The player who completes the hole in the fewest number of throws wins the hole. If two or more players are tied for the fewest number of throws, then they carry over their tie to the next hole and so on until someone wins the hole.
A player must tee off from within the designated tee area. A player may not move his or her feet while throwing except to follow through and balance after the throw is released. After each throw, the player whose disc is farthest from the target lies where his or her disc lies and marks his or her lie with a mini marker disc, called a mini. All other players pick up their discs and throw from behind that player’s lie, as close as possible to where the lie is marked without moving it. This is called lie improvement and is encouraged because it speeds up play. If a player’s throw lands in a tree or bush and is not visible, another player may estimate its position and mark it with a mini. This is called an estimation lie and should be used only when absolutely necessary as it can slow down play.
A player may not step past his or her lie until all other players have thrown their discs. If a player steps past his or her lie, it is a one-throw penalty. Anytime a penalty throw is incurred, add one to that player’s total score for that hole and he or she must throw again from where the previous throw landed, unless it was a putt attempt, in which case he or she gets a do-over putt attempt from inside 10 meters of the basket. If a player’s throw hits another player or his or her caddy, it is considered a courtesy violation and there is no penalty; however, it is polite to apologize.
If a disc hits an object along the fairway such as a tree limb that causes it to stop mid-flight and fall to the ground, it must be played from where it lies unless it can be safely moved without penalty under rule 28 (see section on Unplayable Lies). A run-up and release cannot be used on any shot except for putts; however, if any part of your foot touches beyond the front edge of the tee pad during your run-up on any shot, it will be considered a foot fault and you will incur a one-throw penalty as described above.
During play, if one of your throws accidentally goes out-of-bounds (OB), you must take a one-throw penalty and your next throw must be made from where your previous throw landed OB, or from up to one meter (three feet) inside the boundary along the line perpendicular to the point where your drive went OB (see section on Out-of-Bounds). Any time you incur an OB penalty you add one stroke to your score for that hole; however, if you hit an OB tree on your drive and your second shot would also have been OB but for hitting that tree, then you simply take your one-throw penalty and play your third shot from where your second shot hitOB trees are considered immovable obstructions just like water hazards are on a traditional golf course (see section on Immovable Objects).
Once all players in a group have holed out, proceed to total up each player’s score by adding up their total number of throws for that round using this simple scoring system: 1=par 2=birdie 3=bogey 4=double bogey 5=triple bogey 6=quadruple bogey 7=etc… The winner is the player with the lowest total score at the end of 18 holes
